I am a Solicitor, Commissioner for Oaths
and Notary Public.
I practice at The Grange Middlepart Farm
Belsay Northumberland and cover the area of Northumberland,
Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Eastern
Cumbria.
What is a Notary?
Notaries, or Notaries Public are experienced
and knowledgeable individuals, often a solicitor, who are
formally appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and whose
conduct is regulated by the Court of Faculties under Acts
of Parliament from 1533 to 1990.
They have to have an annual Practicing
Certificate, Professional Indemnity Insurance and a Fidelity
Bond.
What does a notary do?
- Authenticates documents for use in foreign countries.
- Attests the execution of
documents.
- Takes declarations, affidavits, oaths and acknowledgements.
- Certifies the genuineness of copy documents, signatures and execution of documents.
- Arranges transactions.
- Arranges legalisation of foreign documents by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

What do you need to do?
- You must bring evidence of identity (e.g.
a current valid passport) and proof of your current address
(e.g. a council tax or
utility bill)
- You must be able to satisfy me that you understand
the document which is to
be notarised.
What does it cost?
My fee is based around the time required to carry out your work, and my hourly rate is £180 with a minimum set fee of £90. I will
give a cost quotation in advance.
In addition there may be fees to pay to
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office if legalisation is necessary.
If I need to travel then there will be travelling expenses, and I will agree the costs in advance.
